What a lovely suprise to arrive from wintry Paris at 6am to a summery Cannes at midday for the global entertainment content market. I’m here to join over 12 500 participants selling and buying content. Where Deals get Done, is their slogan. I’ll be meeting with some of Australia’s top producers to find out how.

As always, Cannes has a magical way of making things happen in unexpected ways. Last year at the film festival things happened via a chance meeting over lipstick in the toilets of The Grand Hotel, the year before a journey down a stairwell after an overfull lift… this year we’ll see.

Over sixty Australian companies are registered through Screen Australia and I’ll be talking to the likes of producers from Matchbox, Renegade, Firelight about their plans and the future of television.

To get into the mood, I met with UK tv writer Damon Pattison (remember that 100 000 euro I ‘won’ on French TV) and then hooked up with Australians Nannette & Gai for a Mediterranean sunset. Tomorrow, Ian Thorpe is in town. Any pressing questions, please forward to my  inbox!
