From the 3rd October, Juliette Dragon’s new Paris Cabaret School (L’Ecole du Cabaret des Filles de Joie) is lengthening their opening hours to offer extra classes with a variety of disciplines, shuffling in this Saturday with some tap dance.

Alongside the weekly jazz and strip tease classes, the Cabaret de Fille de Joie students- who are a mix of amateur, professional, aspiring and recreational can now taste a variety of disciplines and learn some new skills.  These classes are designed for the participants to be able to awaken ideas to splash into their existing or future cabaret numbers, to develop a bag of tricks to pull from their literal and metaphoric pockets as party tricks or simply to transport them behind the scenes and skills of the colourful world of cabaret for a few hours n a Saturday …

“The morning classes are opens to a wider public,” says Dragon.  She says that where some people shy away from the jazz and strip classes, the idea is to offer a wider palette. There will be clowning, magic, circus skills… “These classes are also open to men,” she smiles.

This week- October 3 starts with a tap workshop with Jazmin Baret! (you may know her..) who recently performed at the 1930s cabaret of Juliette Dragon and will perform in the Paris Burlesque festival in October before an Asian tour with the troupe. The students will learn some basic tap vocabulary, work on their sense of rhythm, be taught techniques they can practise at home (or on the metro) and learn a fun, cabaret style choreography. Tap shoes are not required for the first workshops, just hard soled shoes that make some sound.

“The workshop is not just for aspiring tap dancers,” Jazmin tells Ruby TV. “We are surrounded by and create constant rhythms every moment of our lives. Eating, breathing, walking, laughing, talking… By working on rhythms, becoming aware of them and understanding them more, we can access resources we may not be otherwise aware of and get in sync with ourselves and our surroundings. After all, a magical or positive twist of fate is often just a matter of good timing…” She winks.

The class will however still present some of the classic tap moves and give an introduction to an artform that can puts smiles on faces instantly and globally. Broadway style will be sliced into more full bodied rhythmics. Jazmin influences range from tap to body percussion to theatre and music and she has trained and performed with many of the top international dancers and choreographers. Returning students will eventually have the opportunity to participate in a performance.

The next  classes are Dance Oriental (Egyptian) with Adeline of 1001 Nights (October 10) and French Can Can  with Lolaloo des Bois (October 17).
