CIFF: Yosef Baraki’s Mina Walking tipped for another award

20151115_121747

Ruby catches a camel and chats with Mina Walking writer/director Yosef Baraki.

Mouni heads to the film and returns in awe of Baraki and the performances.

Produced by Canadian Andrew Korogyi, the story follows 12 year-old Mina (magnificent Farzana Nawabi) working tirelessly after school making and selling scarfs in Kabul to support her drugged father and sick grandfather. It has screened at festivals and won awards around the globe and is very likely to take another.  With themes of child exploitation, absence of traditional family structure and the states of a broken society, the telling is courageous, bold and a huge success with the transfixed audience at the Cairo Opera House.

Korogyi was born in Afghanistan and moved to Canada at three years of age.  Find out more about him and the film here and check out the trailer here.

More soon from Korogyi.
