A Visit to Venus(tus)

Feeling a little achy, a little frazzled or a just off centre? Visit Venustus in Paddington, Sydney for a sublime and instant pick-me-up combining body and energy work from Jeannie Bourke and her team of top specialists.

After a a 21 hour flight last month (broken up only by a quick march between planes), I arrived in Sydney Spring- temperamentally sparkly and sunny one day and cold and grey the next. While in quite a perky state and glad to be home for a splash after a year in Europe and North Africa, I was tight from the trip and aware of the need to harness and focus my energies instead of dashing around in all directions. The perfect way to do this? A trip to Venustus, where I visited twice in 2017.

Arriving at 381 Oxford St,  Paddington, I instantly feel a little spark- reflections from the rocks and crystals of all shapes and colours are bouncing all around the room. Founder Jeannie Bourke greets me, as bubbly as ever, and sits me down to find out what I’d like to work on today…fix up the achy jet-lagged body and focus the energies!

She prescribes me an Om massage with the amazing Japanese Haruko and explains “it’s all about energy and balancing. Creating this we kept in all the remedial work and body work but we’re also working energetically.” I choose some rocks and crystals that leap out at me to be used during the session and without further ado I’m sipping a warm ginger juice then climbing into a hot bean bag warmed massage table.

Haruko arrives, and in the darkened room white (cleaned with burnt white sage and Palo Santo for sacred energy) resonates a hypnotic sounds from a singing and sound bowl- to lift the vibrational frequency of the room (and me!). As I exhale, a soft and inspirational sound track kicks in to accompany the entire treatment.

Shiatsu massage is exactly what’s in order for my tight upper back and neck and I feel the toxins literally pulled out of me with calming essential oils and massage- jasmine temple spray (my favourite) induces a heady high and hot rocks treat the more stubborn muscles. As I drift into bliss, the reflexology begins and is just incredibly relieving, then I turn over for the front side including a clay mask that makes me feel like I’m Nefertiti…

A 90 minute session is such a treat and I’m floaty as I come back out to sip more ginger juice and chat to Jeannie, feeling transformed. She tells me that during my massage she did some affirmations for me that she emails me to also use then takes me through a package of essential oils and goodies that will assist with what I need right now.

These are the stones I am thrilled to be taking with me today: amethyst- to dissolve negative energy and use in meditation; smoky quartz- for co-operation and to help lift when feeling flat as well as to balance and ground; rose quartz for love energy and galena for centring and anchoring. And for my next flight, a Jade roller (quite funny as my fantastic travel agent who used to be my fabulous hair and make up artist for shows happens to be called Jade!). This is used for lymphatic drainage to assist with puffiness, especially for flying… Perfect for next adventures!

The Om massage can be booked online here.

Here are the dactyl water and om facial serum roll-ons. And while you can pick and choose your own goodies for various prices, here is a special little  and affordable meditation kit that you may like or could be the perfect little present for a friend with white sage, Venustus om facial water, palo santo, agate & amethyst crystals.

Thanks Jeannie and Haruko. I’m loving the 30 day follow up ritual!  Ommmmm.
