Why aren’t there enough female film directors in the world? It’s a question French director/producer Audrey Clinet asked herself too often. So to help rebalance the scales, in she launched EROÏN. At the 69th Festival de Cannes, she answers five quick questions for Ruby TV.

1.How many times have you been to Cannes and for what reasons?

It’s interesting because my history with Cannes shows my evolution in the cinema industry. It’s my 6th festival. My first time I was a student actress. The second time I was an actress on a short film registered in the short film corner. The third time I was the screenwriter and actress of Parallel, a short film registered in the short film corner. And since 2014 I’m here because I’ve created EROÏN, the label for female directors.

2. What do you think of when you think of Cannes?

Business, Meetings, Stress, Busy, No time, Red Carpets, Strass, People, Friends, Community, Parties, Craziness, Dreams and Lack of Sleep !

3. Tell me about Eroin and its participation this year in the festival.

It’s the 2nd year that I’ve organised a special screening at Eden Hotel with a sponsor: last year it was The Young Economic Chamber of Cannes and this year Oorikas. 5 films of the label was presented on Saturday May 14 at 4pm. It’s a perfect place to show the collection to buyers, press and programmers of festivals. Moreover this year, the label has its collection registered at the Short Film Corner Catalogue: http://sub.festival-cannes.fr/SfcCatalogue/ListThematiqueSfc

4.What would be the best thing that could happen this year at Cannes 2016?

A partner accepting to invest to my association EROÏN! I have built the label since 2012 without any help or financial support. Sometimes it’s very hard to invest yourself in a huge work like EROÏN, and to convince people to work for you for free! I am about to prepare my 5th edition on February and I want it to be the best edition of EROÏN!

5.Which female directors involved in your festival in some way or another will you be keeping your eye on? For my label, it’s really hard to chose a particularly director, because I love the work of every director I’ve selected and I continue to support them on the features market.

They include Sarah Lelouch- selected this year with ‘It’s Caviar’, and currently in production of her feature;
Julie Lipinski, selected in 2012 with ‘Barathon’ and currently in production of her 2nd feature and
Alice Vial, selected in 2014 with ‘The Man Who Knew a Lot’ and screenwriter of ‘The Innocents’.

I hope that one day, one of them will be on the red carpet of Cannes!
